Video News Releases & B-roll

John Gordon & Leslie Lieurance on locationWhen it comes to the production and distribution of Video News Releases (VNRs) and B-roll, experience matters. Gordon Productions is one of the true pioneers in creating VNRs, producing and distributing some of the industry’s first newsfilms starting in 1959. Today, the company is nationally recognized for creating successful VNRs and B-roll for healthcare and technology companies, with five of its VNRs placing in Medialink’s top 20 in total viewership. GP’s staff experience in TV news and journalism means that each VNR is professionally written, shot and edited to meet the needs of TV newsrooms and Internet media.

Satellite DishToday, the TV news environment is constantly changing, as are the rules and regulations of the FCC. Gordon Productions is a member of the National Association of Broadcast Communicators (NABC), a membership organization consisting of VNR production and distribution companies. The NABC has allied with agencies such as the NAB (National Association of Broadcasters) and the RTNDA (Radio-Television News Directors Association) and successfully lobbied to keep VNRs available as a valuable resource to TV newsrooms. All NABC members abide by a professional code that requires attribution and source information for all VNR material. Gordon Productions keeps abreast of the latest information and updates on the status of VNR policy at the FCC and other agencies.

GP distributes its VNRs and B-roll via Pathfire, satellite, and hard copy. Its media relations team contacts reporters and producers directly at stations to pitch the story, line up local interviews when available, and provides follow-up. VNRs and B-roll are monitored via GP’s in-house Sigma™ monitoring. Gordon Productions also offers guaranteed placement options that include quality airings on business shows and Cable TV networks.

Audio News Releases

In much the same way that TV stations have integrated VNRs into their newscasts, radio stations utilize audio news releases (ANRs) to enhance their programming. ANRs can be produced using sound bites from VNRs, or spokespeople can be recorded via phone or in the studio. ANRs feature narration and sound bites in a package that runs under 60 seconds. GP writes and produces ANRs that are concise and newsworthy, making it easy for radio stations to integrate the stories into newscasts that reach listeners at drive time and other prime listening times. GP also offers guaranteed placement opportunities for ANRs that result in an audience reach of over 10 million listeners.

Public Service Announcements

Public Service Announcements (PSAs) provide a great opportunity for non-profit groups and associations to reach a wide target audience through repeat airings on TV and Radio stations across the country. PSAs run between programs and during commercial breaks, and require professional production standards to meet broadcast requirements and secure air time in the competitive public affairs environment. Gordon Productions writes and produces exceptional quality PSAs that generate thousands of airings, ranging from celebrity spots to powerful testimonials from patients.

Once each PSA is completed, Gordon Productions distributes to selected TV and Radio stations across the country that actively run PSAs. Each station receives a cover letter from the organization that sponsors the PSA, along with a complete script/storyboard. All public service directors are contacted and briefed by GP’s media relations team to enhance usage opportunities. The result is the most comprehensive PSA distribution package available. A complete monitoring report is provided for each PSA project that includes audience figures through Nielsen Media Research for TV and Arbitron for Radio.
